Israel Eliminates Two 'Senior Hamas Terrorists' in Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has reportedly killed two senior Hamas members in distinct strikes across Lebanon, as confirmed by both the IDF and the Palestinian militant group. The ongoing military operations in Lebanon have resulted in over 2,000 fatalities to date.

In a statement issued on Saturday night, the IDF identified the two Hamas figures as Muhammad Hussein Ali al-Mahmoud and Said Alaa Naif Ali. The IDF characterized al-Mahmoud as Hamas' “executive authority in Lebanon” and accused him of orchestrating attacks against Israel in the West Bank.

Ali was alleged to have executed “terrorist attacks against Israeli targets” and to be involved in recruiting Hamas operatives within Lebanon.

Hamas acknowledged that Ali was killed during an Israeli strike on the Beddawi refugee camp, located near Tripoli in northern Lebanon. According to Hamas, he died alongside his wife and two daughters, with further details on potential civilian casualties in the densely populated area remaining unclear.

Al-Mahmoud was also reported deceased in an Israeli strike in the Saadnayel region of Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley, as stated by the militant group.

While Hamas primarily operates in Gaza as the ruling authority, it maintains a smaller presence in the West Bank and internationally. After nearly a year of conflict, Hamas has affirmed the loss of fewer than two dozen members in Lebanon.

The recent killings occurred shortly after the death of Fatah Sharif, another prominent Hamas leader, in an Israeli airstrike on the Burj al-Shemali refugee camp in southern Lebanon.

Israel declared war on Hamas last October following a surprise attack by the militants that resulted in the deaths of around 1,100 people and the capture of roughly 250 hostages. Over the course of nearly a year of air and ground operations in Gaza, nearly 42,000 people have died, the majority being women and children, according to the Health Ministry of Gaza.

Simultaneously, Israeli forces conducted operations against Hezbollah fighters along the Israel-Lebanon border at a lower intensity until last month, signaling the onset of a significant air campaign in Lebanon with the apparent sabotage of numerous Hezbollah communication devices. A ground invasion commenced earlier this week, leading to a reported death toll exceeding 2,000 people in Lebanon, including 127 children, according to the country's Health Ministry.

The IDF added on Saturday that Israeli forces have eliminated over 400 Hezbollah fighters since the initiation of the ground operation on Monday.
