Hezbollah Launches Hundreds of Rockets Towards Israel (VIDEO)
Hezbollah has launched hundreds of rockets toward Israel as a response to the killing of its commander, Fouad Shukr, during an airstrike in Beirut last month. In turn, the Israeli military has stated that it conducted preemptive strikes against the group, suspecting an imminent attack.

In a statement released early on Sunday, Hezbollah claimed to have fired more than 320 rockets targeting 11 Israeli military positions, including those in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The group declared that this assault was “within the framework of the first response to the brutal Zionist aggression on the southern suburbs of Beirut," where Shukr was killed.

Israel has previously asserted that Shukr was targeted for his role in a deadly artillery attack on a soccer field in the Golan Heights that resulted in the deaths of 12 minors.

The skies over Galilee lit up as Hezbollah launched its barrage of rockets.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that it had executed a preemptive strike on Hezbollah after detecting “extensive preparation” for an attack by the militia. The IDF indicated that around 100 Israeli jets “struck and destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels” in southern Lebanon, sharing footage that depicted a significant bombardment.

The IDF further estimated that approximately 210 rockets and 20 drones were directed at Israeli targets. “We foiled most of Hezbollah’s planned attack, and we intercepted many of the threats launched at Israel,” stated IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari.

Despite this, Hezbollah maintained that Israel's preemptive strike had not interfered with its operations.

Since the onset of the war with Hamas in Gaza in October, clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have commonly involved cross-border artillery and rocket exchanges, though these have yet to escalate into a full-scale direct confrontation.

Concerns about a potential regional escalation have been heightened following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in a bombing in Tehran. Both Tehran and Hamas have accused Israel of coordinating the attack, while West Jerusalem has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
