Harris criticizes Trump on health issues
The White House has released a letter from Vice President Kamala Harris's doctor, who described her physical and mental condition as “excellent.” Her campaign took the opportunity to challenge former President Donald Trump, suggesting he may be “hiding” information about his health.

The two-page document, authored by Dr. Joshua Simmons and made public on Saturday, detailed that Harris is “a healthy 59-year-old female with a medical history notable for seasonal allergies and urticaria.” It indicated she has never had severe health issues and that her most recent physical exam in April 2024 was otherwise “unremarkable.”

Dr. Simmons highlighted that Harris follows a healthy diet, exercises regularly, does not use tobacco, and consumes alcohol “only occasionally and in moderation.” He concluded his assessment by stating that she “possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.”

Later that day, Harris expressed her belief that it was “clear” her opponent and his team “do not want the American people to see what he is doing and whether he is fit to be President of the United States.”

“So today I released my medical records, as has, I believe, every candidate for President of the United States except Donald Trump in this election cycle. It’s just another example of his lack of transparency,” she remarked to reporters.

Trump’s campaign responded to Harris’s inquiries about his health by highlighting his active and demanding campaign schedule. Spokesperson Steven Cheung stated on Saturday that over time, Trump “has voluntarily released updates from his personal physician,” which all affirmed he is in “perfect and excellent health to be Commander in Chief.”

In November 2023, Trump had released a similar letter from his doctor asserting that his “overall health is excellent” and that his “cognitive exams were exceptional.” Dr. Bruce Aronwald, who has been Trump’s personal physician since 2021, noted that all of his cancer screening tests were negative, his cardiovascular tests were normal, and he had achieved weight loss through daily exercise and an “improved diet.” Recently, Trump also shared a note from his former White House doctor, Ronny Jackson, following a July assassination attempt during which a bullet grazed his ear.

The question of President Joe Biden’s physical and mental fitness for office has long been a contentious issue, with Republicans often claiming the 81-year-old lacks the necessary acuity to serve.

Before Biden's decision to exit the race, Trump consistently criticized the 81-year-old regarding his physical and mental capabilities. While Democrats initially downplayed concerns related to Biden’s age, his poor performance in a CNN-hosted debate with Trump in June drew attention to his apparent frailty.

As Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, has become the Democratic Party's nominee for the November election, her supporters have increasingly used similar tactics against Trump. At 78, Trump is the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history and would set the record for the oldest president should he win a second term.
