Ex-UK Prime Minister says listening device discovered in bathroom following Netanyahu 'visit'
In his new memoir, Boris Johnson recounts an incident that he claims was suspicious, which took place in 2017 when he was serving as the UK's foreign secretary. According to Johnson, a security team discovered a listening device in the bathroom after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used the facility during an official visit.

The event allegedly happened at the British Foreign Office, where Johnson describes a bathroom akin to “the gents in a posh London club,” situated in a “secret annex” designated for the foreign secretary. While Netanyahu was in the building, he presumably made a trip to the lavatory.

“Thither Bibi repaired for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a listening device in the thunderbox,” Johnson wrote.

Johnson, who served as the UK prime minister from 2019 to 2022, did not provide additional details to the newspaper, stating that everything publicly available can be found in his memoir, titled *Unleashed*.

The Telegraph drew parallels between this incident and the discovery in 2018 of IMSI-catchers, or StingRay surveillance devices, in Washington D.C., which were reportedly linked to the Israeli intelligence service Mossad's attempts to hack into then-President Donald Trump's phone. Multiple devices, which can mimic regular cell towers to extract unique ID numbers from mobile phones, were reportedly located near sensitive sites, including the White House.

In other news, Johnson is said to be in discussions with former senior figures from the UK Conservative Party regarding a potentially profitable executive role within the Tory-associated Telegraph media group due to a takeover bid. The Telegraph, where Johnson previously wrote a column, is currently publishing a series of exclusives from his memoir.

The latest excerpt also disclosed that in 2021, during his tenure as British prime minister, Johnson's administration entertained the idea of conducting a raid on the Netherlands to obtain roughly 5 million doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine amidst a dispute between the UK and the EU.
