On Tuesday evening, the president delivered a speech lasting 100 minutes to a joint meeting of the Senate and House of Representatives, reiterating vital aspects of his ‘America First’ agenda and discussing the progress his second administration has made on promises made during his campaign.
Hours before the address, at least 22 senators released identical videos featuring themselves commenting on the president’s prior commitments, all using the same script. Each of the videos commenced with Trump asserting that he would “bring prices down starting on day one,” before transitioning to the senators who dismissed those claims with the assertion that it was "s***t that ain’t true" while reciting the same script.
“Since day one of Trump’s presidency, prices are up, not down,” they conveyed in their videos. “Inflation is getting worse, not better.”
Responses from several Republican lawmakers emerged on social media, with Representative Virginia Foxx describing the video as “weird,” and Senator Ted Cruz humorously suggesting that “DOGE fire[d] all their speech writers.” The Trump War Room account shared a sarcastic GIF that likened the Democrats’ coordinated effort to video game characters.
In the November 2024 US General Election, Republicans secured a majority in the Senate with 53 seats compared to the Democrats' 47, while also maintaining control of the House with 218 seats to the Democrats' 215.
