Cultural celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China were recently held in Abuja, Nigeria, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The events occurred on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, inaugurating a series of festive activities.

The campaign, titled "Written in the Sky: My China Story," was initiated by China Media Group in March 2024. Its aim is to compile narratives from individuals around the world highlighting their experiences with China.

In Abuja, the event featured the screening of "Close Friends across Continents," a documentary encapsulating the harmonious cooperation and deep-rooted connections between China and African nations, as well as their cultural exchanges and interactions.

During the Abuja celebration, Yu Dunhai, the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, reflected on the enduring partnership between China and Nigeria, which has flourished over more than fifty years despite global changes. "Since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than half a century ago, the bilateral relationship has stood the test of international changes and grown stronger," said Yu. He further emphasized the two nations' commitment to fostering a comprehensive strategic partnership, advancing modernization, enhancing their peoples’ welfare, and contributing to global peace and prosperity.

Jafaru Yakubu, who chairs the House Committee on China/Nigeria Parliamentary Friendship Group, highlighted China's significant impact on Nigeria's economic expansion, employment, and infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, the Riyadh event provided a platform for attendees to share their personal accounts of China. Saleh Alsagri, the former cultural counselor at the Saudi Embassy in China, recounted the substantial growth in Saudi students studying in China during his tenure. "At the beginning of my tenure as cultural counselor, the number of Saudi students in China was less than 80, and in just four years, the number had exceeded 1,200," Alsagri shared.

Yahiya Mahmoud bin Junaid, head of the Saudi Center for Research and Intercommunication Knowledge, underscored the synergy between China's Belt and Road Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030. He highlighted the robust and multifaceted relations evolving between the two countries, noting their cooperation across political, economic, and cultural domains.

Participants at the Riyadh event expressed a collective desire to deepen cultural ties and cooperation, aiming to solidify enduring friendships and collaboratively forge a promising future for their bilateral relations.
