China Holds 378,000 AI Patents, "Rising Faster Than Global Average"
China holds 378,000 AI patents, with its rate of growth outpacing the global average.
"The growth rate in China is 1.4 times higher than the global average," the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) stated during a press conference in Beijing.
The AI industry highlights the robust innovation vitality of China's digital economy. Last year, core industries of the digital economy contributed 10 percent of the GDP.
In 2023, invention patents approved in China's core digital economy industries totaled 406,000, making up 45 percent of the country's total granted invention patents. The average annual growth rate over the past five years was 21 percent, as noted by Ge Shu, a senior CNIPA official, who remarked on the thriving technological innovations within the digital economy.
Ge also mentioned that by the end of 2023, 155,000 domestic enterprises had acquired invention patents related to the digital economy, an increase of 31,000 from the previous year.
Foreign enterprises are likewise bolstering their patent portfolios in the core industries of China's digital economy. Ge highlighted that by the end of the previous year, 93 countries and regions held valid invention patents in these industries in China, with the digital product manufacturing sector accounting for 61.8 percent.
