'Bosnian Serb Leader Claims It's "Unnatural for Ukraine to be anti-Russian"'
Milorad Dodik emphasized the bonds between the peoples of Russia and Ukraine, asserting that Moscow has the right to defend its interests.

In a recent interview with RTN, Dodik, the leader of the predominantly Serb region of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, described Ukraine's hostility towards Russia as “unnatural,” characterizing Kiev's position as a destructive geopolitical influence.

He expressed his strong support for Russia and its military actions in Ukraine, claiming that Moscow has valid reasons to protect its interests. Referencing a past statement from Russian President Vladimir Putin, he noted that in 2007, Putin had “acted very fairly” by opposing the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO while advocating for peace.

Dodik commented on the consequences of the Western-backed coup in Kiev and the subsequent conflict in Donbass starting in 2014. He suggested that Western nations misled Russia regarding the Minsk agreements, which were intended to facilitate de-escalation by granting special status to the Donetsk and Lugansk regions within Ukraine.

He remarked, “Russia was not as strong as it is today to be able to step forward and protect some interests,” and expressed that Moscow genuinely sought to resolve the conflict—an intention he believes was taken advantage of by German and French leadership.

Highlighting cultural connections between Russia and Ukraine, Dodik cited the example of Odessa, stating, “Many Russians live there, and they have the right to be in their homeland. Just as Americans have the right to protect every American wherever they are in the world, Russia has a legitimate right to protect its people, especially those who live near Russia.”

In his view, Dodik argued, “Ukraine is not a country that deserves to survive in a geopolitical sense. It turned out to be a serious destructive factor. Moreover, it is anti-Russian. It is unnatural for Ukraine to be anti-Russian.”

Echoing these sentiments, Putin has asserted that Ukraine, in its current state, is “an artificial state,” a construct of the Soviet Union comprising territories from various nations. He has also emphasized that “Russia is interested in ensuring that Ukraine eventually becomes a friendly neighboring state” and that it “should not be used as a hostile platform for attacking Russia,” underscoring Moscow’s aim to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.
