Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong Feature in the Top 10 Global Innovation Cities
Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong have secured spots in the top 10 innovation cities globally, as per a recently published evaluation report on sci-tech innovation. These cities are grouped with other leading metropolises from the United States, Britain, and Japan.
Released on Friday, the report was prepared by the Shenzhen International Science and Technology Information Center, the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance at Tsinghua University, and the research publishing and information analytics firm Elsevier, as reported by the Science and Technology Daily on Saturday.
This report evaluates 30 cities around the globe based on a collaborative development index that focuses on education, science and technology, and talent. Its objective is to offer insights into urban innovation and development trends worldwide while highlighting the scientific and technological strengths of various cities.
The top 10 innovation cities identified are Boston, San Francisco, Beijing, London, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.
In terms of education, Boston, London, and Hong Kong are ranked as the top three cities. London, Beijing, Shanghai, and New York also exhibit relatively balanced advancements in both primary and higher education.
From an innovation standpoint, San Francisco, Boston, and Beijing lead as the top three cities. The report emphasizes the importance of strengthening the innovation ecosystem, which includes enhancing the economic foundation, fostering cooperation between industry, academia, and research, improving scientific infrastructure, and encouraging cross-regional collaboration to boost the innovation capabilities of Chinese cities.
Regarding talent development, the report highlights that five U.S. cities and five Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, are ranked among the top 10.
Additionally, it notes that Chinese cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shanghai are showing remarkable potential in talent development, indicating a robust momentum in this area.
