Assassin who attempted murder was promised $150,000 reward for Trump's assassination
Ryan Routh wrote a letter urging someone else to “finish the job” in the event that his assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump failed, as revealed by federal prosecutors.

The 58-year-old Routh was taken into custody on September 15 after being seen near a Trump-owned golf course in Florida. Authorities discovered a Soviet-made rifle, a GoPro camera, and a backpack containing armor plates at his makeshift hideout.

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” the handwritten note allegedly stated, which Routh left in a box at a private residence.

A photograph of the note was part of a court filing by the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, made public recently. Prosecutors included this note as evidence to justify Routh's continued detention pending trial.

In the weeks leading up to his alleged assassination attempt, Routh had left a box at the home of an unnamed person. After Routh's arrest, the individual opened the box and notified law enforcement, according to the Department of Justice.

The box not only contained the note, but also included “ammunition, a metal pipe, miscellaneous building materials, tools, four phones,” and several other letters.

The court records indicated that six cell phones were discovered in Routh’s vehicle at the time of his arrest, one of which contained a Google search regarding travel from Palm Beach County to Mexico. Additionally, Routh’s Nissan SUV bore false license plates, as reported by the FBI.

Evidence also allegedly found in the vehicle included a list of locations where Trump was scheduled to appear in August, September, and October, along with a notebook filled with criticisms of the Russian and Chinese governments and notes on how to support Ukraine in its conflict.

A convicted felon, Routh had spent much of the previous three years in Ukraine, telling various Western media outlets about his fundraising and recruitment for Kiev’s war efforts. Despite being featured in several reports, his criminal history was not mentioned. The rifle located in his hideout at the Trump International golf club in West Palm Beach was an SKS semi-automatic, which was fully loaded with 11 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Its serial number was reportedly “obliterated and unreadable.”

Trump narrowly survived a previous assassination attempt about two months earlier, on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a 20-year-old opened fire from a rooftop during a rally, hitting Trump in the ear and resulting in one death and serious injuries to two others. The assailant, Thomas M. Crooks, was killed by the US Secret Service, and his body was quickly cremated. His social media profiles have since been removed, and the FBI has not disclosed information regarding his motives or connections.
