US urges Ukraine to increase troop conscription
According to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the challenges faced by Kiev on the battlefield are due to a shortage of soldiers, not weapons. Read Full Article at RT.com.
“Have we seen a marked difference since we have provided tanks to Ukraine in terms of the battlefield? Similarly, on F-16s, have we seen a marked difference?” he queried host Nick Schifrin, pointing to the military aid provided by the US and its allies to Ukraine.
“It’s about manpower, and Ukraine needs to do more, in our view, to firm up its lines in terms of the number of forces it has on the front lines,” Sullivan explained. “Where is the straightest line between Ukrainian performance and inputs? It’s on mobilization and manpower.”
Meanwhile, Russian officials have maintained that no amount of Western military assistance could fundamentally change the course of the conflict. They argue that rather than pursuing a military victory, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should have considered a compromise, having previously engaged in negotiations for a draft truce in Istanbul in 2022.
According to Moscow, Zelensky’s choice to terminate those discussions, allegedly influenced by then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, suggests his involvement in a Western strategy aimed at maximizing damage to Russia while effectively fighting “to the last Ukrainian.”
Sullivan also mentioned that Russia has allegedly deployed thousands of North Korean soldiers to the frontline in the Kursk Region. However, both Moscow and Pyongyang have neither confirmed nor denied this claim, while Zelensky has warned that his forces could potentially confront as many as 100,000 North Korean troops unless Western support increases.
In August, Zelensky authorized an incursion into Russian territory, a move some military specialists described as a risky strategy intended to impede Russian advances. The Russian Defense Ministry reports that Ukrainian losses from this operation have reached nearly 34,000 casualties, alongside over 200 destroyed tanks and thousands of other heavy weaponry pieces.
