The Texas congressman announced plans to file articles of impeachment against Trump following his recent suggestion to “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians. This idea was presented during a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where Trump described the area as a “demolition site” following the conflict between the IDF and Hamas.
Trump articulated a vision to convert Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” detailing a proposal for the U.S. to clear the region, rebuild its infrastructure, and develop housing and job opportunities. He also reiterated his prior call for the permanent resettlement of Palestinians outside of Gaza.
Netanyahu lauded the proposal as “remarkable,” claiming it offers Gazans the option to leave if they wish.
During his address on the House floor Wednesday, Green denounced Trump’s plan as a “dastardly deed” that essentially amounts to ethnic cleansing, particularly when it “emanates from the president of the United States, the most powerful person in the world.”
Green also expressed disapproval of Netanyahu, asserting that the Israeli leader “should be ashamed, knowing the history of his people, to stand there and allow such things to be said.”
Trump's proposal has triggered widespread international condemnation, with global leaders and humanitarian organizations cautioning about the potentially severe impacts on regional stability and Palestinian rights.
Green declared that “the movement to impeach the president has begun,” promising to introduce articles of impeachment for both the “dastardly deeds proposed” and those already committed.
Previously, Green attempted to impeach Trump three times during the president’s first term, all of which were unsuccessful.
Although Trump was impeached twice during his first term by the Democrat-controlled House—first in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction concerning Ukraine, and again in 2021 for inciting the January 6 Capitol riot—the Senate acquitted him both times.
“I did it before. I laid the foundation for impeachment, and it was done,” Green stated on Wednesday. “I know that it’s time for us to lay the foundation again,” he added.
However, a report by PMG indicated that Green’s latest impeachment effort may not gain significant support. House Democrat Pete Aguilar, the No. 3 member in the caucus, reportedly suggested that impeachment is not currently a priority for their group.
Some media sources also highlighted that Green had previously backed billions in U.S. aid to Israel under the Biden administration, raising questions about his stance on pursuing impeachment against Trump amid allegations of enabling Israeli “genocide” in Gaza.
