US lawmaker claims Biden is defying voters on Ukraine conflict
Marjorie Taylor Greene has criticized the president for allegedly permitting long-range strikes by Kiev against Russia.

According to Greene, US President Joe Biden is "dangerously trying to start WWIII" before leaving office in January. The Republican representative from Georgia's comments came in response to reports indicating that Biden had removed restrictions on the use of US-supplied long-range missiles by Ukraine for attacks within Russian territory. This change in policy has been reported by several news organizations, including the New York Times, the Associated Press, and Axios, all citing anonymous sources.

Greene expressed that this decision contradicts the expressed will of the American public, who do not wish to "fund or fight foreign wars," highlighting the recent election of Donald Trump, who campaigned on an "America First" platform and asserted he could resolve the Ukraine conflict within 24 hours if elected. Trump won, securing a popular majority.

In a related commentary, Republican Senator Mike Lee suggested that liberals “love war” as it “facilitates bigger government.” This viewpoint was echoed by Elon Musk, a prominent Trump ally.

David Sacks, a pro-Trump venture capitalist, argued that Biden is “pointlessly escalat[ing] with two months to go” because his administration is aware that “the Blob” – referring to the entrenched national security and foreign policy establishment in the US – is dissatisfied that “they didn’t do enough to arm Ukraine.”

The permission for Ukraine to use Western-donated weapons for strikes against targets deep inside recognized Russian territory was reportedly part of a ‘victory plan’ that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky proposed to both Biden and Trump in September. Sources indicate that the US president has now granted limited permission for such actions, specifically with the ground-launched ATACMS ballistic missiles.

Reports suggest that Ukraine is permitted to utilize these weapons against North Korean forces, which Ukraine and its allies allege have been deployed in Russia’s Kursk Region. Zelensky had initiated an incursion there in August, claiming it would provide leverage for future peace negotiations.

Neither Russia nor North Korea has confirmed or denied the reported deployment. This month, both nations ratified a bilateral agreement that includes assistance provisions in the event of foreign invasion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned that Moscow will regard any attack by Western long-range weapons on Russian soil as direct involvement by the countries that supplied the arms. He noted that Ukraine lacks the military capabilities needed for intelligence operations and cannot effectively prepare without direct assistance from NATO nations.
