US discontinues Biden-era app designed to assist Mexican migrants
President Donald Trump has pledged to shield Americans from “an invasion” at the southern border.

The U.S. has terminated a widely used government app aimed at assisting migrants looking to cross the southern border. The CBP One app was discontinued just after Trump took the oath of office as the 47th president on Monday.

In his inaugural address, Trump reiterated his campaign commitment to combat illegal immigration and ensure the safety of Americans from “an invasion.” That same evening, he signed an executive order that declared a national emergency at the southern border with Mexico.

Following Trump's swearing-in, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the termination of the application. The CBP One app, which was launched under former President Joe Biden, enabled migrants to schedule appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry and submit applications for entry through a lottery system. A notice on the CBP website confirmed that the app is no longer accessible and that existing appointments have been canceled.

CBS News reported that approximately 270,000 migrants were waiting for CBP One appointments on the Mexican side of the border.

Throughout his campaign, Trump committed to executing mass deportations and reinstating the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy that he had initiated during his first term.

“All illegal entry will immediately be halted. And we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” Trump declared during his inauguration speech. He also vowed to combat drug cartels and other foreign criminal organizations, particularly those operating in Mexico.

Trump has consistently blamed his predecessor and the Democrats for failing to secure the border and address the surge of illegal migrants. According to the Office of Homeland Security Statistics 2024 report, it was estimated that about 11 million undocumented migrants were residing in the United States as of 2022.
