US considers an 'imminent' Iranian attack on Israel, according to reports
### Another drone and missile strike might happen at any time, according to Washington

Multiple media outlets report that Iran is allegedly preparing a ballistic missile strike against Israel, according to anonymous US officials, following the entry of Israeli ground forces into Lebanon.

In the early hours of Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces announced “limited localized, and targeted ground raids” against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, after more than a week of intense airstrikes.

According to Axios, a senior US official who wished to remain unnamed stated, ”The US has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel.”

A senior Israeli official indicated that the US warning was received around noon local time, with expectations that a strike could occur “in the next few hours.”

In response to potential rocket and drone attacks, the US embassy in West Jerusalem has directed all its personnel and their families to “shelter in place,” though it did not explicitly mention Iran.

“We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack,” an anonymous White House official informed Axios, as well as CBS and CNN. “A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran.”

IDF spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari confirmed the US had notified Israel about “Iranian preparations to fire missiles at Israel imminently,” but noted that no “air threat from Iran” has been detected so far.

“We are at peak readiness in offense and defense together with our partners from the US and are following the developments in Iran together,” Hagari told reporters. “An Iranian attack on Israel will have consequences.”

A US official cited by CNN expressed that Washington anticipated the forthcoming attack to be “similar” to the one Iran executed in April. This prior attack involved a drone and missile barrage, marking Iran's first-ever strike on Israeli soil. Tehran had announced it through the UN, claiming it was a retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which it deemed a violation of diplomatic conventions, resulting in the death of Iranian General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

During that April assault, US and Israeli officials reported having intercepted most incoming weapons, with Israel maintaining that only a few that penetrated caused minimal damage. However, Iran claimed that the strike's objectives were achieved.

Iran had also threatened to respond to the Israeli assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in early August but ultimately did not act. In mid-September, Israel initiated a campaign against Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Shiite militia operating in Lebanon.
