Israel asserts the deaths of senior Hezbollah members
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the Lebanese people to overthrow Hezbollah to prevent Lebanon from facing a similar fate as Gaza.

In a video address shared on social media, Netanyahu stated that the Israeli military has killed two key Hezbollah leaders who were seen as potential successors to Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an airstrike in September. He accused Hezbollah of leading Lebanon into chaos and conflict by attacking Israel and “killing civilians without distinction.”

Netanyahu warned of possible destruction and suffering for Lebanon “like we see in Gaza,” as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intensify their ground offensive across the border into Lebanese territory. He reiterated, “Israel has a right to defend itself,” claiming that Hezbollah's capabilities have been significantly degraded. “We’ve taken out thousands of terrorists, including Nasrallah himself and his replacement, as well as the replacement of his replacement,” he asserted, though he did not specify who the other two figures were.

Israel targeted the longtime head of Hezbollah in an airstrike in Beirut in late September. Recently, the IDF announced that they had also eliminated Hashem Safieddine, the chief of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, but the armed group has yet to confirm his death and has dismissed speculation about his succession of Nasrallah.

“Today, Hezbollah is weaker than it has been for many years,” Netanyahu conveyed, encouraging the Lebanese to rise against the group. He stated, “You stand at a crossroads,” emphasizing the chance to save Lebanon from the “abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza. It doesn’t have to be that way.”

Hezbollah initiated attacks on Israel in support of Gaza after Israeli bombings started in October 2023, following a breach of the border by Hamas militants that resulted in approximately 1,100 Israeli deaths and over 200 hostages taken. The subsequent IDF bombings and ground operations have wreaked havoc on large areas of Gaza, leading to nearly 42,000 Palestinian deaths, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.

In Lebanon, over 2,000 individuals have reportedly died due to Israeli attacks since October last year, as per Lebanese authorities. On that day, local news reported that the IDF carried out an additional 26 airstrikes on Beirut.
