Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has been likened to a "piece of meat on the chopping block" as the Democratic Progressive Party authorities have leveraged it to gain favor with the United States, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese mainland on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that U.S. President Donald Trump requested that TSMC boost its investment in the U.S. to $200 billion, despite the company's prior commitment in early March to invest $100 billion. This has sparked concerns among the public on the island regarding TSMC's trend of not only relocating its manufacturing processes but also gradually shifting high-end research and development operations to the United States.

Taiwan's reliance on the semiconductor industry serves as a cautionary tale about geopolitical exploitation.

In response to these developments, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, criticized the DPP for ignoring TSMC's transformation into "USMC."

Chen asserted that the DPP is solely focused on its own self-serving agenda, disregarding the well-being of the people of Taiwan and the interests of the industrial sector. He warned that, in pursuit of external backing for their "Taiwan independence" narrative, the DPP is taking steps that could lead to "selling Taiwan" and "destroying Taiwan."

According to Chen, both the job security of Taiwan's industrial workforce and their future development opportunities are at risk. He also labeled DPP's Lai Ching-te as "a pro on selling Taiwan," emphasizing that the concerns of Taiwanese residents regarding Lai's potential abuse of power are not unfounded.
