UK’s Queen Elizabeth II under ‘medical supervision’

Doctors are “concerned” for her health, Buckingham Palace has said

Queen Elizabeth II has been placed under “medical supervision” at her residence at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Buckingham Palace said Thursday. The Queen’s family members have traveled to the estate to spend time with the 96-year-old monarch.

“Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

The Queen’s eldest son and heir apparent Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have traveled to Balmoral to spend time with the monarch, a Clarence House spokesperson has confirmed. Prince William, the eldest son of Prince Charles, has reportedly set off for the estate in Scotland as well.

Newly elected British PM Liz Truss said the “whole country” was “deeply concerned” over the news of The Queen’s deteriorating health.

“My thoughts – and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time,” Truss stated. The development comes two days after Queen Elizabeth II hosted Truss at her Scottish Highland retreat, officially appointing her as the new prime minister.
