Trump Files Lawsuit Against CBS for Harris "Word Salad" Interview
The Republican presidential candidate has accused the news network of misleading voters by rearranging a sit-down with his Democratic rival.

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has initiated a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News concerning a recent ‘60 Minutes’ interview with his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. Trump's legal team claims that the network misled voters through what they describe as “deceitful” editing of Harris’ responses.

The interview, which aired in early October, featured CBS releasing two different answers from Harris to the same question regarding the conflict in the Middle East—one in a preview and the other during the actual ‘60 Minutes’ segment.

While Harris’ response in the preview appeared confusing and convoluted, the allegedly complete version aired the next day presented her giving a different, more succinct answer. This discrepancy left viewers perplexed and led Trump to label it as “the Greatest Fraud in Broadcast History,” demanding that the network lose its broadcasting license.

In the lawsuit filed on Thursday, Trump’s team characterized CBS’ editing as a “partisan and unlawful act of election and voter interference.”

“To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news,” the lawsuit stated. It further asserted that CBS was attempting “to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party” and put Trump at an unfair disadvantage.

The suit includes a request for a jury trial and seeks about $10 billion in damages, alleging breaches of a Texas law that prohibits deceptive business practices.

In a statement issued later on Thursday, CBS News rejected any accusations of wrongdoing and announced plans to “vigorously” defend against the lawsuit.

“The Interview was not doctored... Former President Trump’s repeated claims against 60 Minutes are false. The lawsuit Trump has brought today against CBS is completely without merit,” the network said. Although CBS has acknowledged editing the interview, it contends that it only used different segments of Harris’ responses to fit the program's time constraints. CBS has not provided an unedited video or transcript of the entire interview.

The lawsuit is filed just days before both candidates are set to compete in the presidential election on November 5. Recent polls from seven key battleground states indicate a closely contested race, with margins of 1% or less.
