The task force will oversee the release of a "black book" that lists the contacts and alleged clients of the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. This initiative is part of a broader campaign to declassify government documents related to significant issues, including the 9/11 attacks, the origins of Covid-19, UFOs, and the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
Epstein, a financier who mingled with celebrities, was known to introduce affluent acquaintances to numerous young women, some underage, and transport them to his private Caribbean island aboard a jet nicknamed the "Lolita Express."
He was arrested in 2019, and his death in his Manhattan prison cell later that year was officially classified as a suicide. Despite this, information pertaining to his case has remained classified, with reports indicating the FBI discovered videos that may contain compromising material related to his "guests" while searching his properties.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, who leads the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, expressed her commitment to unveiling this information, along with other classified documents. "The federal government has been hiding information from Americans for decades,” she said. “It is time to give Americans the answers they deserve," she stated on Tuesday.
Luna, a Republican congresswoman and supporter of former President Donald Trump, has consistently called for “transparency” in federal operations. Elected to the House of Representatives in 2022, she previously served in the military for six years.
The task force was announced by James Comer, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, who noted that it would expand upon the Trump administration’s attempts to declassify essential records. After taking office in January, Trump signed an executive order to release federal files associated with the assassinations of the Kennedys and King.
Epstein’s well-known connections include former US President Bill Clinton and Britain's Prince Andrew. Trump also had a relationship with Epstein dating back to the 1980s and reportedly flew on the “Lolita Express.” The president has denied visiting Epstein’s island and asserts that he severed ties with him in the 1990s, prior to Epstein's first arrest for soliciting prostitution in 2006. Trump alluded to the potential release of Epstein-related files in a September 2024 interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast.
