Top German Spy Claims Putin Seeks a 'new world order'
The head of the German foreign intelligence service, Bruno Kahl, has stated that Moscow aims to divide NATO and reshape the global order.

According to Kahl, during its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, Russia has outpaced European nations in military expenditure. He informed Bundestag members on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will "continue to test the West’s red lines and further escalate the confrontation." Kahl added that “direct military confrontation with NATO has become an option for Moscow.”

In recent developments, Putin modified Russia's nuclear doctrine in response to escalating tensions caused by US military support for Ukraine, which Moscow perceives as direct NATO involvement in the conflict. This revision comes as Kyiv urges Western nations to approve the use of foreign-supplied arms for deep strikes into Russian territory.

Kahl emphasized that Putin’s ultimate objective is to “push the US out of Europe” and revert NATO to its borders from the late 1990s. He remarked that Moscow aspires to create a “Russian sphere of influence” and establish a “new world order.”

Russia has pointed to NATO's eastward expansion and the military collaboration between the US-led bloc and Ukraine as key factors contributing to the ongoing conflict.

Putin has advocated for a new multipolar international relations model that rejects Washington's “unilateralism.” This month, during a meeting with leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States—an alliance of several post-Soviet nations—he stated that Russia and its allies support “the formation of a fair world order based on universally recognized principles of international law with the pivotal role of the UN.”

At an international forum in Turkmenistan last week, Putin noted, “A new world order is emerging that reflects the world’s diversity. This process is inevitable and irreversible.” He has maintained that Russia would refrain from attacking a NATO member unless provoked by an attack on itself.
