The ‘most normal’ guy in the GOP primary?

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has a new title: “most normal” candidate in the GOP primary, according to fellow Gov. Tim Walz.

Not that Walz, a Democrat, thinks much of the field.

“I do believe that Doug is probably the most normal of these — that's a pretty weird group of folks going to be on the debate stage,” the Minnesota governor said Sunday during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“Doug's a pretty good guy, but he's trapped in a Republican Party with no ideas,” Walz added.

Walz recently told The New York Times that if he were to vote in the GOP primary — which he said he does not plan to do — he’d vote for Burgum.

But that doesn’t mean Burgum should be free from criticism, Walz said Sunday.

“Doug wouldn't answer the questions that need to be answered,” Walz said, after Burgum repeatedly dodged questions from host Chuck Todd about former President Donald Trump.

“This is one of these things. I think there's an entire cable news industry, there's an entire social media industry built around trying to answer that question,” Burgum said Sunday, when asked whether he believed Trump did attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

“We're friends,” Walz said in his appearance following Burgum’s interview, “but I hate to see it go down this road. Those are very simple questions you are asking about the President, about the indictments.”
