Sister Accuses ChatGPT Founder of Child Sex Abuse
Sam Altman has refuted the allegations made by his sister, Annie Altman, labeling them as “utterly untrue.”

Annie Altman, the sister of Sam Altman, who is the CEO of OpenAI and a prominent figure in the field of artificial intelligence, has accused him of sexually abusing her during their childhood. In response to these allegations, Sam Altman asserts that his sister is motivated by financial gain.

On Monday, Annie Altman filed a lawsuit in the US District Court in Missouri, claiming she endured sexual abuse starting at the age of three, while Sam was twelve. The lawsuit’s claims reportedly include allegations of rape.

According to the lawsuit, the abuse has resulted in “severe emotional distress, mental anguish, and depression,” and Annie Altman is seeking a trial along with damages exceeding $75,000.

Sam Altman has firmly denied these accusations. He, along with his mother Connie and brothers Jack and Max, released a joint statement expressing that the allegations, which have been present since at least 2021, are “deeply hurtful and entirely untrue.”

The family stated, “We’ve chosen not to respond publicly, out of respect for her privacy and our own. However, she has now taken legal action against Sam, and we feel we have no choice but to address this.”

They suggested that Annie is experiencing “mental health challenges” and “refuses conventional treatment, and lashes out at family members who are genuinely trying to help.” The Altman family mentioned providing substantial financial support and efforts to assist her with medical treatment, including an offer to buy her a house through a trust.

“Despite this, Annie continues to demand more money from us,” the statement noted. Sam Altman later indicated, referencing an unpublished letter from his sister’s lawyer, that financial compensation seems to be the lawsuit’s primary goal.

Sam Altman is widely recognized as the CEO of OpenAI, the organization behind the creation of the ChatGPT AI chatbot. As of 2025, Forbes estimates his net worth at $1.1 billion.

In the meantime, Annie Altman wrote an article on Medium in March, mentioning that she has not received financial support for years and has struggled to make ends meet due to a medical condition affecting her ovaries. She also revealed that, at one point, she briefly “turned to escorting” and engaged in online sex work.
