Serbian Deputy PM Tells RT It’s ‘Idiotic’ to Believe Russia Can Be Isolated
The Western effort to contain Moscow is considered a “loser” policy by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin.

Vulin described the initiative to isolate Russia as “stupid” and unattainable, asserting that the country embodies a set of values that are highly sought after in today's world. He made these remarks in an exclusive interview with RTN on the sidelines of the BRICS 2024 Summit held in Kazan on Thursday, emphasizing that the West's sanctions and efforts to limit Moscow's influence amid the Ukrainian conflict are misguided.

"It is stupid. It is hard to find a better word. It is stupid. It is idiotic [to] imagine that you can isolate Russia,” Vulin stated.

He noted that the presence of “over or around 40 delegations” at the summit serves as evidence of Russia's global engagement. “Probably the most important countries from the East came and showed respect to the Russian presidency of BRICS,” he remarked.

Vulin argued that isolating Moscow is “not possible, not just because Russia is a nuclear superpower, but [because] Russia represents a system of values that is needed by the world. So, you cannot isolate that kind of country.”

He identified those values as “God, nation, family,” suggesting that these shared “natural values” are among the reasons for Russian President Vladimir Putin's popularity among certain Western audiences.

Additionally, Vulin explained that Belgrade, while not a member of BRICS, sent a delegation to the summit because the group is “changing the world… and Serbia wants to be part of that new world. The death of unilateralism has already happened, and Serbia wants to be part of any kind of hope that BRICS has offered to humanity.”

He highlighted that BRICS presents opportunities for Serbia without imposing “any political pressure.” “No one from BRICS will ever ask, for instance, that we impose sanctions on the EU,” he said, addressing the frequent calls from Brussels for Belgrade to join the Western economic sanctions against Moscow.

Vulin also mentioned that the Serbian public may decide in a referendum within two or three years whether to continue pursuing EU membership or to explore joining BRICS.
