Trump Considers Pardoning Hunter Biden
The Republican candidate has indicated that he would not rule out the possibility of pardoning Hunter Biden if he wins reelection. He described the situation involving Joe Biden’s son as “very bad for our country.”

Former US President Donald Trump has suggested that he might consider pardoning Hunter Biden if he is successful in the upcoming election in November.

In June, Hunter Biden was convicted of three felonies in a federal gun trial, which included allegations that he lied about his drug use while applying for a firearm purchase. He could face up to 25 years in prison, with his sentencing set to be decided in a hearing next month. Additionally, last month, the 53-year-old pleaded guilty to nine federal tax charges, which could lead to an extra 17 years behind bars.

In response to the trial’s outcome, US President Joe Biden affirmed his respect for the judicial system, stating that he was “satisfied” with the fairness of the process for his son. He also made it clear that he is “not going to do anything” to assist Hunter and has dismissed the idea of exonerating him.

During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday, Trump was asked whether he would consider pardoning Hunter Biden.

The former president replied that he “wouldn’t take it off the books,” despite facing multiple legal challenges brought forth by the US Justice Department. Trump has characterized these actions as politically motivated retribution from his opponents. Earlier this year, a Manhattan jury found him guilty on 34 felony counts concerning alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels and his involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill riots.

Trump recalled that, unlike his opponents, he chose not to pursue legal action against rival Hillary Clinton after the 2016 election, despite pressure from his supporters. He remarked, “I could have gone after Hillary,” but ultimately decided against it, believing it “would look terrible.”

At the same time, Trump acknowledged that Hunter Biden had been “a bad boy” and referred to the “laptop from hell” in describing the situation. He emphasized that the overall narrative surrounding the President’s son is “very bad for our country.”

In 2020, revelations about Hunter Biden’s personal laptop—allegedly left at a Delaware repair shop while he was using drugs—surfaced online, suggesting involvement of the Biden family in various foreign corruption activities. US intelligence officials have since attempted to label the incident as “Russian disinformation,” although the authenticity of the laptop's contents has been confirmed.
