Russian military choir performs viral sensation ‘Sigma Boy’
A Russian military choir has created its own rendition of the viral hit song ‘Sigma Boy’.

The video, circulating on social media, features servicemen in uniform singing the song. It includes clips of Russian soldiers using various weapons systems in combat, along with footage from the annual World War II victory parade held in Red Square.

The new lyrics celebrate “the real sigma boy,” who is described as “strong and brave” and “will soon return home with victory.” This performance was released online in anticipation of Defender of the Fatherland Day, a public holiday in Russia observed on February 23.

The popular tune was initially recorded by Russian schoolgirls Betsy and Maria Yankovskaya. After its debut in October 2024, it gained traction on TikTok and climbed into Billboard’s top ten dance hits. The song centers on a boy who is highly sought after by girls wishing to dance with him.

Nela Riehl, a German Member of the European Parliament, has criticized the song as “a viral Russian trope” that “communicates patriarchal and pro-Russian worldviews.”

On February 7, Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation asserted that the track is “part of a wider information warfare” and serves as an element of Russia’s “soft power.”
