Shopify, which hosted Yeezy.com, confirmed the store's removal to US media on Tuesday.
"This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify,” a Shopify representative told the Hollywood Reporter and the Business Insider, though no specific details were given about the rules that were breached.
On Monday, West, who is also known as Ye, aired a 30-second advertisement during the Super Bowl promoting his website. The store initially featured a variety of merchandise, but by Tuesday it had been reduced to just one item: a $20 white T-shirt emblazoned with a swastika and labeled ‘HH-01.’
The Anti-Defamation League, a US-based anti-discrimination advocacy group, noted that ‘HH-01’ appeared to reference the Heil Hitler salute.
In a series of posts last week on X, West declared himself “a Nazi” and expressed his “love” for Adolf Hitler, stating that “racist stereo types [sic] exist for a reason and they all be true.” Much of the content in these posts was directed at the Jewish community and included various anti-Semitic assertions.
Additionally, on Tuesday, a former Yeezy employee filed a lawsuit against West and his company, claiming workplace discrimination and harassment. The lawsuit alleges that West sent anti-Semitic texts, which included messages stating “Welcome to the first day of working for Hitler” and “Hail Hitler.” The plaintiff, who is Jewish, has also alleged that Ye exhibited misogynistic behavior and emotional abuse.
This incident marks yet another episode of controversy for West, a 24-time Grammy Award winner, regarding anti-Semitic behavior. In 2022, he was suspended from X, then known as Twitter, for similar comments and subsequently lost significant partnerships with brands like Adidas and Gap. Earlier this month, Russian fashion designer Gosha Rubchinsky terminated his collaboration with Yeezy.
West has been open about his mental health challenges. In a recent podcast interview, he retracted his earlier claims of having bipolar disorder and instead asserted that he is autistic. In 2020, he revealed his past struggles with alcoholism, describing himself as a “functioning alcoholic.”
