Robot dog monitors Trump’s residence in Florida
Security around Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate has been significantly enhanced, with the president-elect now under the watch of Secret Service patrols, gunboats, and – as evidenced by video footage – a roaming robot dog.

Following his electoral win over Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump established his transition operation at Mar-a-Lago, a century-old mansion converted into a country club, which served as his base during his previous term. As aides and potential cabinet members gather at the oceanfront venue, the security presence has noticeably intensified.

Checkpoints staffed with bomb-sniffing dogs have been positioned at the bridge connecting Palm Beach to the Florida mainland and along roads leading to the club, according to a report by The Independent on Wednesday.

The Secret Service has erected mobile watchtowers in the vicinity of Mar-a-Lago, while Coast Guard boats patrol both the Atlantic coast to the east and the Lake Worth Lagoon to the west of the estate.

These enhanced security measures were implemented after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July. Following a second threat on Trump's life in September, President Joe Biden mandated that his political rival be safeguarded "as if he were a sitting president" and provided "all that he needs" for his protection.

However, recent footage captured by Reuters showcased a new, four-legged addition to Trump’s security team: a robotic dog seemingly outfitted with cameras. The quadrupedal robot, appearing to be one of Boston Dynamics’ ‘Spot’ models, was seen patrolling the club's perimeter on Thursday.

‘Spot’ is utilized by law enforcement agencies both in the US and abroad. Currently, Boston Dynamics prohibits customers from arming the robo-dogs, despite the project being largely funded by the Pentagon. A different robotic canine developed by the company, known as BigDog, was specifically built for military applications.

The increased security will remain in effect as long as Trump is at Mar-a-Lago and will only be scaled back if he spends more than a few days away from the estate, as reported by the Palm Beach Daily News on Wednesday. The main road in front of the club, South Ocean Boulevard, will continue to be closed, while bridges between Palm Beach and the mainland may close unexpectedly when Trump’s motorcade departs or arrives. Additionally, there will be some flight restrictions at the nearby Palm Beach International Airport, the newspaper noted.
