Private jet almost crashes into US passenger plane
An investigation has been initiated following a dramatic incident involving a Southwest Airlines flight that aborted its landing to avoid a collision with another aircraft at Chicago's Midway International Airport.

Reports indicate that a Southwest Airlines passenger plane came close to a collision with a private business jet on Tuesday. Social media footage captures the moment the Southwest flight nearly touched down before suddenly ascending to evade the taxiing private jet. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely shortly after.

The Boeing 737-800, which was operating as a Southwest Airlines flight, was arriving from Omaha, Nebraska. The private jet, a Bombardier Challenger, was being operated by Flexjet and was en route to Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have both announced they are looking into the incident, which took place around 8:50 a.m. local time. The FAA reported that the private jet had entered the runway without proper clearance, forcing the Southwest crew to execute a "go-around" to avert a potential accident.

A Flexjet spokesperson confirmed to NBC that the company is aware one of its planes was involved and is "conducting a thorough investigation" into the events that transpired.

Southwest Airlines also released a statement, confirming that the flight landed safely after taking the precautionary action and stating that "the crew followed safety procedures."
