State Sen. George Lang mentioned the necessity for himself and others to exercise more caution in choosing their words.

Ohio Republican Expresses Regret Over ‘Civil War’ Remark at Vance Rally
At a rally in Ohio, Republican State Senator George Lang, representing JD Vance's hometown, initially supported the notion of a civil war if the upcoming elections did not favor the Republicans. However, he later retracted his statement, expressing regret for his choice of language during these politically volatile times.

"After reflecting on the enthusiasm of my remarks at the rally, I realize how important it is to choose our words carefully," Lang stated. "Given the recent assassination attempt on President Trump, it is crucial for all of us, including myself, to consider the impact of our words at political gatherings."

Lang made his controversial comment while speaking in Middletown, Ohio, at a rally supporting Donald Trump and JD Vance, emphasizing the importance of the Republican ticket's success in November.

"I’m afraid if we lose this one, it’s going to take a civil war to save the country, and it will be saved," Lang remarked during the rally. "It’s the greatest experiment in the history of mankind, and if we come down to a civil war, I’m glad we got people like … Bikers for Trump on our side."

He later adjusted his statement on the social media platform X, clarifying that his earlier comments were not a true reflection of his beliefs.

The call for toned-down rhetoric has been strong from both parties following the July 13 attempted assassination of Trump during a Pennsylvania rally.

The campaign of Kamala Harris linked Lang's statement to Trump’s previous aggressive remarks.

“Donald Trump and JD Vance are running a campaign openly sowing hatred and promising revenge against their political opponents,” said Ammar Moussa, spokesperson for the Harris campaign. “That’s why a Republican official was empowered to predict a civil war while introducing these candidates.”
