During a speech on Monday commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Nicaraguan police, Ortega denounced Netanyahu, likening his policies to those of the Nazi regime. He stated, “At the head of the Israeli government there is a prime minister who is the son of the devil. Why? Because he practices a policy of terror and is Hitler.”
Ortega also directed his ire toward Israel's Western supporters, warning that the actions of EU nations and the US could either “lead the planet to a total war” or result in their total defeat.
In his assessment of Zelensky, Ortega remarked, “[Zelensky] is another Nazi, another son of Hitler, wanting to compromise NATO into going to war against Russia.” This criticism aligns with Ortega's ongoing negative stance towards the Ukrainian leader, whom he has consistently labeled a Nazi.
These statements follow Nicaragua's official decision to cut ties with Israel, a move justified by the country’s condemnation of what it termed the “brutal genocide that the fascist and war criminal government of Israel continues to commit against the Palestinian people.”
A resolution from the National Assembly passed on Friday described the Israeli government as “an enemy of humanity, which intends to spread its barbarism throughout the Middle East, endangering world peace and security.”
Nicaragua's relationship with Israel has been historically complex, marked by periods of severed diplomatic ties. The two countries restored relations in 2017 after Ortega had previously cut ties in 2010.
