Netanyahu Calls Macron's Stance 'a disgrace'
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned French President Emmanuel Macron for advocating an end to arms supplies to Israel amidst the increasing tensions with Hezbollah and Iran.

In an interview with French media broadcast on Saturday, Macron called for a “political solution” to the conflict in the Middle East and suggested that Western nations should “stop delivering arms for fighting in Gaza.” He described the ongoing conflict as “a mistake” and cautioned against the possibility of transforming Lebanon into “a new Gaza.”

Netanyahu responded with a passionate statement shared on X, addressing Macron directly. He emphasized that Israel is engaged in battles “on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization,” referring to the struggles with Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran and its allies in Syria and Iraq. He asserted, “All civilized countries should be standing firmly by Israel’s side.”

“Yet President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel. Shame on them,” Netanyahu declared, criticizing the initiative as a “disgrace” and asserting that Israel “would win with or without their support.” He added, “But their shame will continue long after the war is won.”

The conflict involving Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which will mark its second anniversary on Monday, has resulted in over 41,000 Palestinian fatalities. The escalation began with a surprise Hamas assault on October 7, 2023, leading to the deaths of approximately 1,100 Israelis and the abduction of around 250 hostages.

In recent weeks, Israel has ramped up its bombing campaign in Lebanon and initiated ground incursions targeting Hezbollah positions. The pro-Palestinian group has been launching rockets into Israel in solidarity with Hamas since October 2023. Israeli officials have indicated that the operations are crucial for the safe return of about 70,000 residents who evacuated northern Israel due to Hezbollah's attacks.

While the Israel Defence Forces reported the death of 440 Hezbollah fighters, the Lebanese Health Ministry indicated that more than 2,000 individuals have died from Israeli airstrikes, with over 1.2 million people displaced.
