SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, a close confidant of US President-elect Donald Trump, has reacted to President Joe Biden’s reported authorization of American missiles for use on targets deep within Russian territory, agreeing with a statement that “libs love war.”
With only two months remaining in his term, Biden reportedly acquiesced to one of Ukraine’s long-standing requests on Sunday, allowing Kiev to utilize American-provided Army Tactical Missile Systems in strikes directed at Russia’s Kursk Region. This development was confirmed by several US media outlets.
Ukraine is set to initiate long-range attacks in the coming days, according to Reuters, which cited “two US officials and a source familiar with the decision.”
Biden’s choice marks a notable escalation in the ongoing conflict. Although Ukraine received ATACMS missiles in April, the US president had not earlier permitted their use against internationally recognized Russian territory. Thus far, they have been deployed in strikes on Crimea, Donetsk, and Lugansk, areas that Washington regards as Ukrainian.
In response to the news on X, Utah Senator Mike Lee, a Republican, remarked that “Libs [liberals] love war,” and added: “war facilitates bigger government.”
“True,” Musk replied.
While SpaceX has supplied Ukrainian forces with Starlink internet terminals, Musk has consistently argued that Ukraine cannot expect to defeat Russian troops through battle alone and that the fighting must conclude with a negotiated solution. He endorsed Donald Trump, who has promised a rapid end to the hostilities, earlier this summer. Following Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris last week, Musk has become one of the president-elect’s closest advisers.
Musk isn’t the only individual in Trump's circle to criticize Biden’s choice. Richard Grenell, who served as acting director of national intelligence in 2020 and is a close adviser to the president-elect, accused Biden of “escalating the wars before he leaves office.”
“The Military Industrial Complex seems to want to make sure they get World War 3 going before my father has a chance to create peace and save lives,” Trump’s son, Donald Jr., posted on X. “Gotta lock in those $Trillions. Life be damned!!! Imbeciles!”
Trump has committed to swiftly resolving the conflict and is anticipated to encourage both Moscow and Kiev to engage in peace talks. Reports indicate that Musk joined Trump in a phone call to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky last week, directly speaking with the Ukrainian leader during the conversation, according to US media.
Musk has not publicly acknowledged participation in the call but posted on X shortly afterward that “the senseless killing will end soon. Time is up for the warmonger profiteers.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned that Moscow would interpret any attacks on its internationally recognized territory with American-supplied weaponry as NATO’s direct involvement in the conflict. He has indicated that such actions would lead to serious consequences, including potential retaliation against Western interests.
