Musk Labels Reuters 'Paid Propaganda'
US billionaire Elon Musk has shown support for an online theory that connects the Reuters international news agency to investigations into his businesses by the current administration of US President Joe Biden.

Musk, a close ally of president-elect Donald Trump, labeled the supposed connection “insane” and remarked that it “explains a lot.” He further criticized Reuters as “paid propaganda” that should be ashamed.

The connection was initially suggested by Mike Benz, who heads the pro-free speech website Foundation For Freedom Online. In a post on X, he claimed that the outgoing Biden administration “paid Reuters over $300 million in government contracts” while 11 US government agencies “targeted Elon’s businesses.”

Benz supported his assertion with public records from usaspending.gov and highlighted a series of Pulitzer Prize-winning reports by Reuters on Musk, titled ‘The Musk Industrial Complex,’ which discussed “grave harms to consumers, workers and laboratory animals across Elon Musk’s manufacturing empire.”

Musk has become a key ally of Trump since endorsing his candidacy in mid-July and is expected to take on a significant role in the incoming US administration aimed at reducing government inefficiency.

Before choosing sides in the US elections, Musk faced considerable criticism from left-leaning public figures and media outlets regarding his management of X, formerly Twitter, which he acquired in 2022. His goal for the multibillion-dollar purchase was to eliminate censorship on the platform, which he argued was suppressing pro-conservative voices.

Critics contend that Musk has transformed X into a platform for right-wing extremism, failing to deliver on the promise of free speech. The European Union has threatened legal action against the platform for allegedly not addressing “disinformation.”

Recently, the Musk Foundation has been accused of not meeting US requirements for charitable organizations, according to its latest tax returns submitted to the IRS.

Additionally, The New York Times reported that Musk and his company SpaceX are under investigation for compliance with US regulations regarding classified information. Musk responded by asserting that “deep state traitors are coming after me, using their paid shills in legacy media.”

In March, Musk remarked that “The legacy media lies as easy as breathing,” declaring that “Reuters is the worst right now.”
