Musk Expresses Gratitude to Netanyahu for His Support Amid Criticism
The Israeli prime minister has supported the billionaire amidst criticism over his alleged Nazi salute at an inauguration event.

Elon Musk expressed gratitude to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for defending him as controversy mounts regarding a hand gesture he made at a supporters’ rally in Washington coinciding with Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Musk felt the need to refute claims that the straight-arm gesture he presented while addressing Trump supporters at the Capital One Arena on Monday resembled a Nazi salute. He described the accusations as a “dirty trick” from his opponents, suggesting they should adopt more constructive methods of critique rather than labeling every adversary as “Hitler.”

On Thursday, Musk posted on his social media platform X, stating, “the radical leftists are really upset that they had to take time out of their busy day praising Hamas to call me a Nazi.”

In a show of solidarity, Netanyahu shared a post on X, referring to Musk as “a great friend of Israel” who is being “falsely smeared.” He noted that Musk visited Israel following the October 7 attack by Hamas and has “repeatedly and forcefully supported Israel’s right to defend itself.”

Musk shared Netanyahu’s statement, expressing appreciation for the support.

The entrepreneur traveled to Israel in November 2023 amidst accusations of enabling threats against Jews and xenophobia on his social media platform. He also faced allegations of endorsing an anti-Semitic trope after agreeing with an X user who claimed that Jewish people were inciting “hatred against whites.”

Musk has denied these accusations and warned of suspension on his X platform for anyone promoting “the genocide of any group.”

During his visit, Musk met with Netanyahu and Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog. Netanyahu guided Musk on a tour of Kfar Aza, a kibbutz in southern Israel that was attacked by Hamas during its incursion on October 7. The prime minister showcased a 44-minute film prepared by Israel to highlight the alleged atrocities committed by the Palestinian group.

In a press conference following his meeting with Netanyahu, Musk asserted that Israel had “no choice” but to eliminate Hamas, labeling the Palestinian militant organization as a “poisonous regime.” During a separate visit to Auschwitz in January 2024, Musk expressed that he had been “frankly naive” regarding the alleged uptick in anti-Semitism in the West.
