This week’s report highlighted the increase in Moscow’s billionaire population, which has surpassed Hong Kong, previously tied for the No. 2 spot last year.
In the past year, Moscow has registered the largest increase in billionaires, adding 16 to its count, bringing the total to 90. This includes 11 newcomers, along with a $31 billion rise in the combined wealth of the city’s ultrawealthy residents.
Vagit Alekperov, the city's richest individual with an estimated fortune of $28.7 billion, derives over half of his wealth from his ownership stake in Lukoil, as noted by Forbes.
New York City continues to hold the title of the world’s wealthiest city for billionaires for the fourth year running, with 123 billionaires collectively worth $759 billion.
Hong Kong now ranks third, harboring 72 billionaires valued at $309 billion after a reduction of two billionaires from its tally in 2024. Despite this, Hong Kong remains Asia's leading hub for billionaires.
London has climbed two ranks, increasing its billionaire count by nine, including seven newcomers, resulting in a total of 71 billionaires whose net worth is around $355 billion.
Beijing and Mumbai rank fifth and sixth, with 68 and 67 billionaires respectively. Singapore follows in seventh with 60 billionaires, while Shanghai and San Francisco are tied for eighth with 58 each. Los Angeles completes the top ten with 56 billionaires.
As reported by Forbes, the global billionaire population consists of 3,028 individuals spread across more than 800 cities, with nearly a quarter of them, representing a combined wealth of $3.3 trillion, residing in one of the top ten cities. Additionally, the outlet mentioned it could not ascertain the primary residence of 40 billionaires this year.
