According to Al-Masirah TV, US and British air forces have conducted strikes against several targets in western Yemen associated with the Houthi militant group. The broadcaster, which is linked to the Houthi-aligned Ansar Allah movement, stated on Sunday that the attacks, along with a raid, targeted the At-Tuhayta district in Al-Hodeidah Governorate.
A security source in the governorate confirmed the report, but details regarding casualties and further information about the bombing have not been disclosed.
Sunday’s raid marked the first occurrence since mid-November, when American-British air forces jointly bombed targets in the country’s Saada and Amran governorates.
The Houthis, a Shia Islamist group that controls a significant portion of Yemen, have been attacking Israel-linked commercial shipping in the Red Sea since October of last year, in retaliation for Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.
The Yemeni group has launched missiles or drones at over 80 merchant ships since Israel declared war on Hamas in Gaza, following a series of deadly raids by the Palestinian group into Israeli territory. Initially, the Houthis focused on vessels "linked to" Israel, but their attacks later expanded to include US and UK vessels after Anglo-American airstrikes in January.
Additionally, the Houthis have targeted Western warships in the region and have claimed to have launched missiles directly at Israel on various occasions, describing these actions as a show of solidarity with Palestinians.
