Kremlin Responds to Zelensky's Call for Tomahawk Missiles
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is attempting to pull Western nations into a conflict with Russia through his ‘victory plan’. Peskov's comments came in response to inquiries regarding recent reports of Kiev's request for Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States.

The New York Times revealed this week that Zelensky had covertly sought Tomahawks to target areas deep within Russia, while Ukraine has consistently urged the West to remove restrictions on the use of such weaponry.

"Apparently, all the ‘peace plans’, all the ‘victory plans’, secret or not secret – they all boil down to Kiev dragging Western countries into war as quickly as possible and legitimizing it," Peskov told reporters. He further noted that Ukraine appears to be increasingly "showing considerable nervousness" about the situation on the front lines.

With a range reaching up to 1,500 miles, Tomahawk missiles surpass the reach of any Western-supplied weaponry Ukraine has received thus far. In contrast, the ATACMS systems provided by the US can hit targets up to 300 km away.

Sources from the NYT characterized Ukraine’s request as “totally unfeasible,” stating that Ukraine has not made “a convincing case to Washington on how it would use the long-range weapons.”

The US has been cautious about permitting Ukraine to employ American-made arms for strikes within Russian territory. Additionally, the NYT reported that American officials have privately voiced their frustration with Zelensky’s strategy, labeling it “unrealistic and dependent almost entirely on Western aid.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned that allowing Ukraine to conduct long-range strikes using foreign-supplied weapons would equate to NATO “waging war” against Russia. He asserted that Ukraine would need targeting data, which could only be provided by the US-led alliance, to execute such attacks.

Previously, Putin proposed amendments to Russia’s nuclear doctrine, suggesting that the country might use nuclear weapons if Ukraine were to utilize Western-sourced conventional long-range missiles against Russian territory.

In the meantime, Zelensky has expressed dissatisfaction over the public disclosure of classified elements of his ‘victory plan,’ including the request for Tomahawks. Speaking with Western reporters in Kiev on Wednesday, he lamented that the leak of “confidential information between Ukraine and [the] White House” could undermine trust in communications with Washington.
