Korean Peninsula at risk of nuclear annihilation – Pyongyang
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has made accusations against the US for heightening tensions both regionally and globally. Read Full Article at RT.com.
During a national defense exhibition, Kim stated that the US is trying to impose its will on the entire world, thereby heightening the risk of nuclear conflict on the Korean Peninsula. He accused the US of leveraging its power to establish a global sphere of influence and threatening nations—including North Korea—that resist.
Having engaged in negotiations with the US previously, Kim believes that America is unwilling to coexist with countries that do not share its ideological views. He remarked that the US’s “aggressive and hostile policy toward North Korea will never change.”
Kim also characterized the current global landscape as riddled with numerous armed conflicts, making it the “most chaotic and violent since World War II.” He argued that “a country that has given up self-defense cannot be called a truly sovereign state,” as it risks being “trampled by tyranny.”
At the defense expo, Kim showcased domestically-developed North Korean weaponry, asserting that it rivaled modern technologies from abroad and secured the nation’s safety. He commended the developers of these weapons, claiming they possess a “righteous purpose and character,” distinguishing them from the arsenals produced by “imperialist countries in their pursuit of slaughter, destruction, and economic gain.”
Kim had engaged in three negotiation rounds with former US President Donald Trump in 2018 and 2019. These diplomatic efforts were a hallmark of Trump's initial term and resulted in a temporary thaw in relations on the Korean Peninsula, which has since reverted to hostility between North and South Korea.
Following Trump's return to the White House, where he pledged to decrease American involvement in foreign conflicts, the Biden administration has reinstated joint military exercises with Seoul that had been put on hold during Trump's engagement with Kim. Pyongyang perceives these exercises as a significant security threat, arguing they may mask preparations for an invasion.
