Israel Reportedly Readying for Attack on Iranian Nuclear Facilities – Media
Events in Syria have opened a potential opportunity, sources informed the Times of Israel.

The Israeli Air Force is preparing for “potential strikes” on Iranian nuclear facilities, according to military officials speaking to the outlet.

West Jerusalem is of the opinion that the unexpected seizure of Syria by jihadist rebels has diminished Tehran’s influence in the area, which could lead Iran to accelerate its atomic program.

In the meantime, Israeli airstrikes have significantly depleted Syrian air defenses, paving the way for an operation targeting Iran.

Tehran has consistently claimed that its nuclear program is intended for peaceful and civilian use, despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's assertions that Iran has ambitions to develop an atomic bomb. In 2015, the five leading nuclear powers reached an agreement with Iran to oversee its nuclear activities in return for sanctions relief, though the US withdrew from this agreement in 2018.

Reports indicate that Israel contemplated strikes on Iranian nuclear sites following Tehran’s missile attacks on October 1 but ultimately decided against executing those plans.

Netanyahu’s administration has leveraged the recent developments in Syria to degrade its neighbor’s military strength, conducting “one of the largest attack operations in the history” of its air force. Earlier this week, Israeli aircraft targeted over 250 sites throughout Syria, including airports, seaports, air defense and missile facilities, military industrial locations, and warehouses. Additionally, Israeli troops advanced beyond the buffer zone in the Golan Heights and claimed Mount Hermon.

Bashar Assad’s regime in Syria was recently overthrown by militants from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, although the jihadist group has yet to establish firm control.

Israel is reportedly convinced that Iran is “isolated” following the removal of Assad and that its key ally in the region, Hezbollah, has been significantly weakened as a result of the recent Israeli Defense Forces operations. This situation may encourage Iran to expedite its nuclear efforts and could present an opportunity for an Israeli pre-emptive strike, as stated by Times of Israel.
