On Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces conducted airstrikes targeting what they referred to as “military targets” in Iran, focusing on missile manufacturing facilities and air defense systems. This action took place almost a month after Iran launched approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, striking two airbases.
During a discussion on Sunday, Netanyahu's cabinet ministers were reportedly informed of the likelihood of a separate retaliation aimed specifically at Hezbollah, following the group's explosives-laden drone assault on the Prime Minister’s home less than two weeks prior.
Channel 13 stated, “The ministers at the cabinet discussion were clearly told that the Israeli attack on Iran did not include the response to the sending of the UAV and that another response is expected,” while not disclosing its sources. The network did not specify who provided the information about the potential for more strikes.
Hezbollah claimed full responsibility last week for the attack on Netanyahu’s residence located in Caesarea the previous weekend. Iran provides various types of support—political, financial, and military—to Hezbollah, which Israel views as an Iranian proxy force.
Netanyahu, who was away from the property during the incident, remarked that “Iran and its proxies” will “pay a heavy price.”
The response from Iran to Saturday's strikes remains uncertain. In a speech on Sunday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei indicated that the implications of the Israeli attack “should neither be exaggerated nor downplayed,” asserting that Iran’s “response will be determined by senior officials, in a manner that best serves the interest of the people.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, however, cautioned that Tehran would utilize “all available tools” to “deliver a definite and effective response to the Zionist regime.”
The US State Department has characterized the Israeli airstrikes as “proportionate” and has urged Tehran to refrain from retaliatory actions.
