Iraq War Strategist Voices Support for Kamala Harris
Dick Cheney, the former US Vice President and dedicated Republican, has declared his support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in this November’s presidential election.

Initially backing Trump during his first campaign in 2016, Cheney has since emerged as a vocal critic of the former president. In a recent statement, he asserted that “in our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”

Cheney criticized Trump for attempting to "steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him,” a remark referencing the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots and Trump’s refusal to concede to Joe Biden.

The 83-year-old former vice president emphasized the importance of prioritizing the country over political affiliations, stating, “As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for vice president Kamala Harris.”

Cheney’s endorsement of Harris came shortly after his daughter, former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, announced her support for the Democratic nominee. Cheney served as vice president under George W. Bush and was instrumental in the planning and execution of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, which aimed to oust Saddam Hussein. Prior to the war, he made claims about Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction and having ties to Al-Qaeda—assertions that were later disproven.

In 2022, while Liz Cheney campaigned for re-election in Wyoming, her father referred to Trump as “a coward” in a campaign advertisement. Liz failed to secure a fourth term in Congress, losing to Harriet Hageman in the Republican primaries—a candidate endorsed by Trump.

In response to the Cheneys’ remarks, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, labeling Dick Cheney as “an irrelevant RINO, along with his daughter, who lost by the largest margin in the history of congressional races.” The term RINO stands for “Republican in Name Only.”

Trump also criticized Liz Cheney for her involvement as Vice Chair of the House January 6th Committee, which investigated the Capitol riots and Trump’s alleged role in inciting the violence. He mentioned, “What Liz Cheney did with the Unselect Committee of Political Losers is unthinkable. She and her Unselects deleted and destroyed all evidence and information - it’s gone. Cheney and the others should be prosecuted for what they did, but Comrade Kamala is even worse.”
