Holocaust survivor criticizes Harris over Trump-Hitler remark
A Holocaust survivor has called for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris to apologize to all victims of the Third Reich after she compared her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. This statement was captured in a video shared by Trump's campaign.

The video, released on social media on Friday, features Jerry Wartski, a 94-year-old survivor who was imprisoned at Auschwitz-Birkenau during World War II. Wartski, who has lived in the U.S. for most of his life and is now an honorary president of the Israel Heritage Foundation, expressed strong disapproval of Harris's remarks.

"Adolf Hitler invaded Poland [in 1939] when I was nine years old. He murdered my parents and most of our family. I know more about Hitler than [Harris] will ever know in a thousand lifetimes,” Wartski stated in the video. He emphasized that “for her to accuse President Trump of being like Hitler is the worst thing I have ever heard in my 75 years living in the US.”

On Wednesday, Harris responded to comments from Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, who claimed that Trump had praised Hitler privately during his presidency, suggesting that the former president acknowledged “good things” done by the Nazi leader. Trump's team has dismissed Kelly's assertions.

Harris remarked that it is “deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler,” considering Kelly’s comments “a window into who Donald Trump really is.” Later, she described Trump as “a fascist,” a potential dictator, and someone who admires authoritarian figures.

Wartski countered her statements, saying, “I know President Trump and he would never say this. And Kamala Harris knows that. She owes my parents and everybody else who was murdered by Hitler an apology for repeating this lie.” He also urged Jewish voters to support Trump on November 5, highlighting the Republican candidate's history of standing with the Jewish people and the state of Israel.

In response to Harris's remarks, Trump noted that her comparison reflects her desperation, stating, “she sees that she is losing, and losing badly.”

Recent polling indicates a competitive race, with the final national poll from the New York Times and Siena College showing Trump and Harris tied at 48% for the popular vote. A similar survey by SSRS for CNN also found the candidates in a close matchup, each receiving 47%.
