German state media host refers to Palestinians as "worse than animals"
Veteran anchor Bettina Boettinger has asserted that individuals in Gaza lack dignity.

The experienced German TV host recently expressed her views regarding Palestinians who were seen celebrating the exchange of hostages amid an Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement. This deal, reached last week, brought a pause to 15 months of intense conflict, with both sides agreeing to release hostages. On Sunday, Hamas freed three Israeli captives who had been held since October 7, 2023, while Israel released numerous Palestinian prisoners in response.

On Monday, Boettinger, who has been with the German state broadcaster WDR since 1985, commented on social media platform X in reaction to a post that labeled Palestinian civilians celebrating the prisoner exchange alongside armed militants as “animals.” She replied in German: “No, animals have dignity, which these idiots do not have.”

Boettinger currently co-anchors the ‘Koelner Treff’ talk show, a role she has held since 2017. Throughout her career, she has also hosted various prestigious German media award ceremonies, including the Grimme-Preis and Deutsche Kamerapreis.

Following a raid by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,100 deaths and over 200 hostages taken to Gaza, Israel vowed to dismantle Hamas. The military's response has led to widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip, with local health officials reporting at least 46,000 casualties.

The violence has extended beyond the borders of Israel and Gaza. The Israeli military and intelligence have targeted Lebanon in efforts to weaken the militant group Hezbollah, which backs Hamas. Additionally, direct exchanges of missile strikes between Israel and Iran have signified a significant escalation in their ongoing rivalry.
