Fox reports White House demands recorded apology from Zelensky
An anonymous source has informed the outlet that a public apology from Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is a prerequisite for resuming negotiations regarding a rare earths deal with the US.

Reports indicate that if Zelensky wishes to continue discussions with the US, he must first address the way he conducted himself during a recent meeting with US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday, according to Fox News and an unnamed American official.

Prior to the tense exchange at the White House, Washington and Kiev had been negotiating an agreement that would allow the US access to Ukraine’s mineral resources. However, progress has stalled following Zelensky’s confrontational encounter with American leaders.

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy noted, “there’s quite a disconnect happening here at the White House with their allies in Kiev.” He added, “I have been told by a senior official here that nothing’s gonna happen with this minerals deal until Zelensky goes in front of cameras and makes an explicit public apology for the way that he behaved… in the Oval Office.”

Zelensky, however, expressed his readiness to maintain a “constructive dialogue” with Washington and sign the proposed agreement, as he told the BBC on Sunday.

In the aftermath of the contentious meeting, Secretary of State Marco Rubio advised Zelensky to apologize “for wasting our time... [and] turning this thing into the fiasco for him that it became.”

The Ukrainian leader later told Fox News that he does not believe he owes an apology to Trump and Vance.

On Monday, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz referred to Zelensky as the “problem” because of his unwillingness to “talk peace.” He emphasized that “Time is not on his side. Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict.”

Waltz reiterated similar sentiments during a CNN interview on Sunday, asserting that “if it becomes apparent that President Zelensky’s either personal motivations or political motivations are divergent from ending the fighting in his country, then I think we have a real issue on our hands.” He underscored the need for a leader who can effectively work with the US and engage in negotiations with Russia to conclude the war.

The White House meeting spiraled into a verbal altercation, as Trump accused Zelensky of lacking appreciation and claimed that Ukraine would have already succumbed to Russia were it not for the substantial support from the US.
