Fox poll reveals Harris closing gap on Trump in Sun Belt states that challenged Biden
Earlier Fox surveys indicated that Biden was behind Trump by 5 or 6 points across the four states.
The vice president holds a slight lead, which is within the margin of error, over Trump in Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada, while Trump has a narrow edge in North Carolina. This poll follows the Democratic convention and indicates a boost for her campaign.
The timing of the poll coincides with Harris beginning a bus tour in rural Georgia alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as they aim to replicate Biden’s 2020 success in the crucial state.
Following the poll's release, Trump’s campaign criticized Fox News for what they deemed “atrocious” polling, claiming that Trump is performing better than in 2020 in Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and other areas.
Conducted from August 23-26, the Fox poll reveals that Harris leads by 1 percentage point among registered voters in Arizona and by 2 points in Nevada, while Trump is up by 1 point in North Carolina.
Earlier Fox polls had shown Biden lagging behind Trump by 5 or 6 points in each of these Sun Belt states.
The latest poll indicates that Trump has lost 6 percentage points of support among white evangelical Christians in these states since 2020, dropping from 83 percent to 77 percent. Conversely, his support among Black voters has nearly tripled, going from 7 percent to 19 percent.
Harris's gains in support for the Democratic ticket can be attributed to a significant 79 percent backing from Black voters, a crucial demographic where Biden's appeal had diminished since 2020, particularly among women—a pivotal group for a Democratic victory.
In additional races in Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina, Democratic candidates display substantial leads in the Fox poll.
In the Arizona Senate race, Democrat Ruben Gallego is ahead of Republican Kari Lake by 15 points, and Democrat Jacky Rosen leads Republican Sam Brown by 14 points in Nevada's Senate race. In North Carolina's governor race, Democrat Josh Stein has an 11-point lead over Republican Mark Robinson.
The Fox battleground polls surveyed 4,053 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points for each individual state. The overall sample carries a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.
