Essential Information on the 2024 Republican National Convention
The RNC is scheduled to commence on July 15, wrapping up on July 18.
On Monday, Milwaukee is set to welcome thousands of Republicans for the highly anticipated Republican National Convention. The highlight of the event will be the official party nomination of Donald Trump, along with an eagerly awaited announcement about his running mate for vice president.
The convention, a political rendezvous that takes place every four years, promises to fortify the Republican base ahead of the electoral season. The podium will be graced by up-and-coming Republican stars along with the party's core members.
Trump declared his plans to run for presidency in November 2022, but his choice for vice president remains a mystery. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, Senator J.D Vance of Ohio, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum are all rumored to be under consideration.
More than 50,000 attendees are predicted to participate in the four-day occasion. However, not all of them are supporters, as large protests are projected to take place near the venue on the commencement of the convention.
The upcoming details provide an overview of what to anticipate when the Republican National Convention takes flight next week.
The convention is slated to open on July 15 and will conclude on July 18.
The prestigious Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the chosen venue. This key battleground state has been a center of attention in the 2024 election, attracting campaigns from both President Joe Biden and Trump this year. Trump had a narrow victory here in 2016 but fell short in 2020 against Biden. Over the past two decades, the RNC has strategiclly hosted the convention in contested states.
In addition to Trump and his unannounced vice presidential candidate, other notable speakers include Trump family members like Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Co-Chair Lara Trump, and Kimberly Guilfoyle. Although former first lady Melania Trump isn't scheduled to speak, she is confirmed to attend the event. Speakers also likely include potential VP picks - Governors Doug Burgum and Marco Rubio, Senator J.D Vance, and other Republican figures like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Those interested in the speeches can tune into YouTube, X, Facebook Live, Rumble, Amazon Prime, Twitch and Direct TV.
The RNC's official policy tally, also known as the platform, is titled "To the Forgotten Men and Women of America". The committee that translated the Trump campaign's suggestions into these policies was largely agreeable. Despite the introduction of new language neglecting explicit advocacy for federal abortion restrictions, an approach echoing Trump's own 'leave-it-to-the-states', it has stirred controversy among anti-abortion factions and former Vice President Mike Pence. This revised platform is set for a vote by the entire convention assembly next week.
