According to the Danish state broadcaster DR News, Donald Trump’s eldest son and his team bribed homeless and vulnerable individuals during a recent trip to Greenland to record a ‘MAGA’ group video and participate in photos.
Trump Jr. arrived in Greenland on Tuesday for what he described as a “personal day trip,” with no scheduled meetings with government officials. This visit came after President-elect Donald Trump expressed interest in acquiring the Danish-controlled territory.
Later, Trump Jr. posted on X about his experience, showing himself with people wearing the iconic red ‘MAGA’ hats, captioned, ‘Greenland loves America and Trump.’ A video clip depicted attendees enjoying lunch with him at the Hotel Hans Egede in Nuuk, the capital, expressing their desire for the island to join the US.
DR News reported that the individuals featured in the video were persuaded to participate in the publicity stunt by being offered a free meal.
The outlet interviewed several individuals in Nuuk, who reportedly recognized some of those in the video as homeless.
“One resident stated, ‘All they have to do is put on a cap and be in the Trump staff’s videos. They are being bribed, and it is deeply distasteful,’” as per a local's comment.
Several employees at the Brugseni Nuuk store corroborated reports that Trump Jr.’s team walked around the area distributing MAGA caps and inviting people to a complimentary lunch at the hotel.
The incoming president has previously stated his intention to acquire Greenland, labeling the island an “absolute necessity” for US national security and suggesting that military force or economic measures could be considered.
Greenland, the world's largest island, is located between the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans and currently hosts a significant US military base. The territory was granted home rule by Denmark after a referendum in 1979.
In response, Greenland’s government has categorically rejected Trump’s acquisition plans, denouncing them as “an absurd idea,” a sentiment echoed by Denmark.
