The billionaire venture capitalist has openly criticized the government’s approach to the Ukraine crisis. “He will safeguard free speech online, and steer us away from Big Tech bias and censorship,” Trump stated, highlighting Sacks’ role in “making America the clear global leader in both areas.”
In the announcement, Trump praised Sacks’ deep roots in the tech sector, referencing his involvement with the 'PayPal Mafia'—the group of pioneering employees from the online payments company who have since become prominent figures in Silicon Valley, including Elon Musk.
Sacks, who also hosts a well-known podcast, endorsed Trump’s presidential campaign in June. He cited four main reasons for his support, with a particular focus on the Republican’s foreign policy, especially his intention to resolve the Ukraine conflict. “The hostilities with Russia are President Joe Biden’s ‘biggest blunder by far,’” he remarked at the time.
Sacks expressed concern over the ongoing war, noting, “As the war of attrition grinds on, the Ukrainians face ever-mounting casualties and infrastructure damage.” He criticized Biden for escalating the situation and remarked that the Democratic Party’s strategy seemed restricted to “fighting the proxy war to the last Ukrainian, or fighting Russia ourselves.”
Furthermore, Sacks has labeled the Ukraine conflict as a “war of lies,” claiming that the American public is being misled by their government regarding its origins, the prospects for victory for Kiev, and the repercussions on the West’s international standing.
