China's Jiaolong Manned Submersible Reaches Hong Kong for the First Time
On Tuesday, China's research vessel Deep Sea No. 1, accompanied by the manned submersible Jiaolong, was warmly welcomed during its inaugural visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The vessel is returning home after completing a scientific mission in the Western Pacific Ocean. During its two-day visit to Hong Kong, the scientists onboard will deliver lectures to local students and conduct several international seminars to share findings from the expedition.

Warner Cheuk, deputy chief secretary for administration of the HKSAR government, remarked that these visits, in anticipation of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, "fully demonstrated the central government's care and support for Hong Kong's marine scientific research development and ecological conservation." He expressed hope that this event would encourage more young people in Hong Kong to get involved in deep-sea research and contribute to making Earth a better place.

Wu Changbin, director of the China Ocean Mineral Resources R&D Association, praised the successful completion of the scientific expedition in the Western Pacific, stating that the voyage "not only enhanced China's scientific understanding of deep-sea biodiversity and ecosystems but also contributed important scientific data to global marine scientific research."

The scientific expedition team, consisting of Chinese and foreign scientists, departed on August 10 from Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province, and conducted a total of 18 dives in the Western Pacific. Notably, it marks the first instance of foreign scientists engaging in deep-sea research aboard Jiaolong.
